Human Intelligence Sought to Drive Future of AI in NSW

The NSW Government is searching for the brightest minds to take part in the newly established Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advisory Committee and provide ongoing strategic advice on the use of AI.

The Committee will be chaired by the NSW Government's Chief Data Scientist Dr Ian Oppermann and will be pivotal in building community trust in the use of AI.

Dr Oppermann said the Committee - the first of its kind in Australia - will provide ongoing expert advice to government agencies and will reflect a diverse range of professional backgrounds from a range of sectors.

“The AI Advisory Committee will play a central role in supporting the AI assurance framework which is to be developed under the Strategy,” Dr Oppermann said.

“We are seeking the brightest minds with expertise in all areas relating to AI implementation as well as those who are actively engaged in either the technical, legal, regulatory, ethical or academic area of AI design.

“This committee will provide a forum for the discussion and escalation of emerging or identified risks and will also facilitate collaboration, cooperation and positive partnerships across Government, industry and academia.”

Alongside Dr Oppermann and the committee’s core membership, experts with knowledge in a relevant area may be invited to attend to contribute as required by the Committee.

The Advisory Committee follows the launch of the AI Strategy that was released by the NSW Government in September, designed to create jobs and deliver smarter and better services to citizens across NSW.
