ABB Provides Integrated Automation Platform

ABB, a global leader in providing automation solutions, has released IRC5 controller with an integrated AC500 PLC, providing robust functioning in a single integrated unit. It offers a truly stretchable and scalable programming, developed on comprehensible, superior quality and a low price automation platform. Also the space occupied by the PLC cabinet is very less. Hence the time related to the installation and functioning of the automated production unit is significantly reduced.

The incorporated robot controller features three local I/C boards with bus communication for remote I/Os, thereby providing the option of a single point of checking for a variety of robotic cell’ tasks including secondary production equipments like grippers, feeders and ancillary machines. The integrated controller supports all modes of communication including DeviceNet, PROFIBUS DP, CANopen and Modbus TCP and also wireless communication making them ideal for all types of industry sites.

Since its inception in 2006, AC500 PLC is known for its compatibility with all OEMs. The control builder software is so pliable that the developers are provided with a combined programming environment comprising of all six IEC61131-3 programming languages and also tools for accomplishing functions like organization, restoration and visualization. The included software framework eliminates the necessity of a communication network between the robot controller and the PLC thereby assisting in effortless programming and functioning of the robot. This framework embraces user friendly communicative presentation on the robot controller interface device called the FlexPendant, thereby enabling the system engineers to focus on the advanced aspects of robotic installation.
