Xenex' LightStrike Germ-Zapping Robots Destroy Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria in Four-Minute Cycle

Last Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) issued a report on superbugs and the risk they pose to hospital patients stating that “more work is needed – especially in fighting antibiotic-resistant bacteria.” Hospital acquired infections (HAIs) kill nearly 200 people in the U.S. every day and affect 1 in 25 hospital patients – and these numbers do not include infections acquired at skilled nursing, long-term acute care and outpatient surgery facilities.

Carnegie Mellon University's National Robotics Engineering Center Chosen for Major New Federal Research Projects

Carnegie Mellon University's National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) has been selected as a prime contractor or subcontractor on four major new federal research projects totaling more than $11 million over the next three years. The projects range from research on a wheel that can transform into a track to automated stress testing for critical software.

First Prostate Ablation Treatments Performed at Gramercy Surgery Center Using EDAP’s Ablatherm Robotic HIFU

EDAP TMS SA, the global leader in therapeutic ultrasound, today announced the first prostate ablation treatments performed at Gramercy Surgery Center in New York, NY, using the Company’s FDA-cleared Ablatherm Robotic HIFU. Dr. Ivan Grunberger, Chief of Urology at New York Methodist Hospital and Professor of Clinical Urology at Weill Cornell Medical College, performed the procedures. He was assisted by Dr. Judd Boczko, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology at New York Medical College who practices with Westmed Medical Group.
