NMSU’s UAS FTC Supports Vanilla Unmanned Aircraft to Successfully Complete 25-Hour Flight

The New Mexico State University Physical Science Laboratory’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Flight Test Center assisted in the successful 25-hour flight of the Vanilla Aircraft VA001 Medium Altitude and Long Endurance Unmanned Aircraft at the Las Cruces International Airport, April 4.

RIA to Host International Collaborative Robots Workshop at Hynes Convention Center, Boston

The Robotic Industries Association (RIA) announced today it will hold its International Collaborative Robots Workshop from May 3-4 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Mass. In partnership with the largest technology trade organization in Massachusetts, Mass Technology Leadership Council (MassTLC), and its innovation hub for robotics, known as MassRobotics, the Workshop will explore advancements in the field with a global view on collaborative robot technology, applications, safety implications, and the human impact.

New Self-Powered Smart Skin Could Provide Human-Like Sense of Touch to Robots

Smart synthetic skins have the potential to allow robots to touch and sense what’s around them, but keeping them powered up and highly sensitive at low cost has been a challenge. Now scientists report in the journal ACS Nano a self-powered, transparent smart skin that is simpler and less costly than many other versions that have been developed.

Researchers Build More-Efficient Drone by Exploiting Updrafts

A team of researchers from the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Research program at RMIT have observed the flight patterns of birds to build the world’s first soaring drone that remains airborne using the updrafts found around buildings. The researchers discovered this concept while working to improve the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designs. They exploited updrafts to keep a drone airborne for five times longer than a drone driven with a propeller.

Ekso’s New Robotic Exoskeleton Receives FDA Clearance for Use in Patients with Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury

Ekso Bionics Holdings, Inc., a robotic exoskeleton company, today announced that it has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market its Ekso GT robotic exoskeleton for use in the treatment of individuals with hemiplegia due to stroke, individuals with spinal cord injuries at levels T4 to L5, and individuals with spinal cord injuries at levels of T3 to C7 (ASIA D), in accordance with device’s labeling. The Ekso GT is the first exoskeleton cleared by the FDA for use with stroke patients.
