Intelligent Energy Sign LOI to Develop Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powered Drones

CES showstopper Intelligent Energy has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with a major drone manufacturer to develop hydrogen fuel cell powered drones. The deal will see the two companies work together in the first quarter of 2016 to develop technological solutions to increase drone flight time. The goal is for the deal to lead to a formal commercial arrangement for the solutions’ rollout.

Fraunhofer Researchers Control Cell Production Process Using Fully Automated Equipment

Industry 4.0 requires comprehensive data collection in order to control highly automated process sequences in complex production environments. One example is the cultivation of living cells. But digitalizing and networking biotech production equipment is a huge challenge: relevant standards have yet to be established, and biology has a dynamic all its own. Using fully automated equipment for producing stem cells, Fraunhofer researchers have managed to adjust the process control to cell growth – delivering an adaptive system that is suitable for use in a number of sectors.

RPVaero Simplifies Drone Authorization Process as FAA Initiates COAs and FAA 333 Exemptions for RPV Use

In December 2015, the FAA initiated specific rules governing the use of unmanned aircraft. Registration for the vast majority of drone types has become mandatory and all use of unmanned aircraft in the commercial or government realm are now required to obtain a special Certificate of Authorization (COA) or a FAA 333 Exemption depending on its use. These applications are complex, lengthy, and time consuming to prepare.

Upstate Medical University Physicians Report Use of Robotic-Assisted Surgery in Complex IVC Thrombus Case

Physicians at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse describe in the December issue of Urology the first case ever in which doctors used minimally invasive robotic surgery to perform a radical nephrectomy (removal of entire kidney) with a level III inferior vena cava thrombectomy (removal of a tumor from the largest vein that carries blood to the heart).
